The History of Toy Electric Trains

Friday, April 29th, 2011

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Toytrains in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Not only do electric toy trains provide allot of fun for the entire family, they have a history that is almost as rich as the one shared by the real railroads.

The very first toy trains first appeared on the market in the 1860′s. These trains were simple designs that were made out of wood and metal. It is doubtful that the designers had any inkling of what there simple floor toys would evolve into.

The Marklin company saw a need for a set of standard gauges for toy trains in 1891. When they first implemented these standard gauges it was for the wind-up (also called clockwork) trains the Marklin Company produced. The same standards are still used for today’s electric trains.

The very first electric toy train was introduced to the world in 1901. The train was a product of the Lionel toy company. At first this train was only intended to be used as a window display. It wasn’t long before consumers were more interested in the window display then in the the merchandise.

It was during the 1920′s that electric toy trains became really popular. At the time all the kids wanted them, but only the rich kids could afford them.

Think about what you’ve read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about Toytrains? Or was there something completely new? What about the remaining paragraphs?

Smaller scaled eclectic toy trains were introduced to the world. These trains were typically O gauge and HO gauge. Most of these trains could only be purchased as kits that were then put together by adults with a great deal of experience.

World War II stopped the production of toy eclectic trains from 1941 through 1945.

When production of toy electric trains resumed after the war, the popularity of the trains took off. By the 1950′s they were the most popular toy among boys in the United States. They had also become more affordable. At this time the biggest toy train manufacturer is Lionel. By the middle of the 1950′s there was a clear division between toy electric trains that were designed by adults and toy eclectic trains that were designed with children in mind.

The N scale train was introduced in 1965. The N scale train was only one half the size of the O trains. Three years later the G scale train was introduced. The G scale train is still a popular choice among garden railroaders. The G scale train was introduced by Germany’s LGB company. The G scale trains allow collectors to add real scenery to their layouts as well as topography. Some people incorporate garden trains directly into their homes landscaping.

Marklin created a train that was even smaller then the N scale train in the 1970′s. This train was called the Z scale. At this time improvements in technology and electronics could be seen in the toy electric trains.

Realistic sounds and digital control systems were added to the electric toy trains in the 1980′s. It is estimated that there are over a half million train collectors in the United States and Canada.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

Certainly, great care will be taken in the considering what types of scrapbooking materials will be purchased. After you have all the scrapbooking materials that you can think of like the scrapbook paper and binder, scrapbooking stickers and other scrapbooking items along with the snapshots to be used and some personal effects to enhance your layout, you’re pretty much set to begin on the wonderful endeavor of your scrapbooking project right? Where To Go Costa Rica

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

When you are planning your vacation it is good to know a little about the area so you can choose what suits your fancy. The locals refer to themselves as Ticos and they are warm and welcoming wherever you visit in Costa Rica. My friend and I plan to visit all areas of Costa Rica but you may have to consider what to put in your itinerary if you have only 7 days. The following is a list of the various regions and what they might offer in the way of entertainment. Pick and choose whatever combination you like.

San Jose
Most museums and art galleries in Costa Rica are found in San Jose. The central part of San Jose is noisy and crowed as the capital of any city will be. The airport is located outside of San Jose and you may come into Costa Rica via San Jose anyway, why not check it out while you are visiting. I have been told that you step of the curb carefully in Europe or get run over. Pedestrians do not have the right of way in San Jose either so watch yourself when you cross the street.

The Northwest
Arenal and Monteverde are located in the Northwest. Arenal is the Volcano located in this area and it is a game of wait-and-see to get the opportunity to view the cone of the volcano spew hot lava. Arenal is one of the only active volcanoes in the world that can be safely viewed by tourists without the threat of bodily harm. I live in the Pacific Northwest, also in the shadow of Mount Rainier so volcanoes don’t bother me.

The road to Monteverde runs from the small town of Santa Elena to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve with hotels, nightclubs and restaurants. This area is usually very dense with tourists. Originally settled by Quakers this area now has a thriving eclectic artist community. Quakers are also reported to be great cheese makers in this area. I just love cheese and Quakers are cool too so I gotta plan to visit the cheese farm. Although this is one of the busiest this region offers many day trips and interesting things to do.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Costa Rica now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

Nicoya Peninsula
While the Costa Rican government would certainly welcome the revenue from more tourists, for the moment the beaches of Nicoya remain somewhat of a secret. Beaches are still relatively deserted. If golf is your thing the course at Playa Conchal is renowned. This would be the vacation for you if you have water sports in mind. There is snorkeling, swimming, diving, surfing, fishing, and even kayaking. The drive from Carrillo to Mal PaĆs by 4-wheel drive is simply amazing. This area is also surfer heaven. Horseback riding is also offered by most of the hotels.

Quepos & the Central Pacific
This area is known for beaches and water sports. There is an abundance of quiet beaches to choose from while you do see surfers frequently the beaches are not crowded and it is easy to relax. Along their Pacific Coast Highway there is a vast array of lodging anywhere from the seedy to the luxurious and in between. This area is a wonderland for any beach lover with diving, fishing, golf, and horseback riding, kayaking and even surfing. I want to try the Titi Canopy tours. A canopy tour is like a ski lift going from tree to tree like the monkeys. If you are afraid of heights this is not for you!

Osa Peninsula & Golfo Dulce
This area is much more remote, however there are several luxury hotels. Drake Bay has whale-watching tours and you can often spot dolphins playing around your boat. Corcovado National Park offers tours that are teaming with wildlife to see and take photos of. In Golfo Dulce the are 2 botanical gardens, Casa Orquideas Botanical Garden and Wilson Botanical Garden.

South Caribbean
Miles of banana plantations can be found here. Some believe these to be the most beautiful beaches in the country, although it is much more humid. The culture here is more Caribbean in it’s inhabitants. The usual water sports can be found here.

That’s the latest from the Costa Rica authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

Work From Home 4 Dollars

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Have you ever wondered if what you know about Paid Surveys is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on Paid Surveys.

There are over 500 online companies offering money for people who want to work from home doing surveys and earn a full-time income. Beware of such sites that promise you riches for nothing; they’re a scam.

While there are some legitimate sites that pay a few dollars to take a ten minute survey, there are others that are not legitimate. Many of these sites simply exist to gather your personal information and sell it to telemarketing companies. A few of them are downright scams that require a “sign-up” fee in exchange for the privilege of working from home.

One of the sites I’ve run across is workfromhome4dollars.com. This site not only offers you “up to $75 an hour” for completing surveys in the privacy of your own home, it also advertises just about every “work from home” scam there is. Most of these schemes are aimed at women who are trying to make a few extra dollars while staying home with the kids.

I’ve written many articles about paid surveys and was happy to find that there are some legitimate companies out there on the internet. But I’m halfway intelligent and can usually smell a scam from a mile away (two miles on a clear day). And as soon as I clicked on workfromhome4dollars.com, the stench overwhelmed me.

P.T. Barnum said there is a sucker born every minute. Unfortunately, he was spot on in his assessment of human nature. Sadly, there are many predators out there who are only too glad to take someone’s hard-earned money with the promise of a “get rich quick” scheme.

Workfromhome4dollars is only too glad to hook you up with surveys that promise to pay $5-$75 an hour. For $34.95, the site will direct you to a survey site where you can participate in surveys. What workfromhome4dollars.com doesn’t tell you is that these sites can be accessed by any individual with internet experience without paying a dime.

In addition to offering “opportunity” for paid surveys, workfromhome4dollars.com offers other “opportunities” such as “typing from home,” “medical transcription from home,” “data entry from home” and other schemes aimed mostly at uneducated women. All of these “golden opportunities” cost the participant anywhere from $35 to $75 to enroll.

The site is merely a money making portal. Of all the sites on the internet I’ve investigated while researching this topic, this is the worst. I implore anyone who is interested in participating in paid surveys to beware of the following:

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Paid Surveys experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Paid Surveys.

- Do not give out your credit card number, social security number or bank information to any online site.

- Beware of any site that promises “thousands of dollars a month” for working from home. I’ve done a lot of research into paid surveys; if it were that easy, no one would work outside the home.

- Do not pay “upfront” for the privilege of doing a survey. Legitimate companies will not ask for a fee.

- Paid surveys are a way to make supplemental income; not a living. You can expect to make maybe $200 a month doing this.

- Before signing up for any online survey site, do a little bit of research. The honest ones will tell you that you won’t make a lot of money and will have stringent privacy policies.

- Do not, under any circumstances, ever participate in any survey about health insurance. I made this mistake once and now get about five calls a day from people trying to sell me health insurance.

- If you are participating in a survey and are directed to another website, do not feel you have to answer any questions on that site. Many times there will be “fine print” that charges your telephone number for trying a product. In addition to this, keep close tabs on your telephone bill.

- Each time you log on to your computer, clear your cookies.

Participating in paid surveys can be a fun way to earn a few extra dollars, gift cards or discount certificates. Do not expect to “get rich” doing this. And under no circumstances ever pay for the “privilege” of doing a survey.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on Paid Surveys. Compare what you’ve learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of Paid Surveys.
